Basic Info
Name:Espio the Chameleon [OU]
Bio
Character: Espio the Chameleon
Series/Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, STC (UK comic) canon.
Original or Alternate: Original

Age: 18
Gender: Male
Species: (Anthropomorphic) chameleon
Sexuality: (As I write him...) Claims to be homosexual - is in fact bisexual.

Appearance: Espio is a relatively small, skinny lizard. Some of his defining physical characteristics include a bony neck frill, a protruding yellow horn on the front of his face, a curled tail and a line of three spines down his back.

Though as a chameleon he can change the colour of his skin, his "neutral" colour is usually a pinkish purple. Precisely what shade of pink or purple depends on his mood. However, he is not entirely pink - his lower face and stomach are of a more golden tone. Espio's eyes are a greenish shade of gold.
As a general rule, he has pretty much no need for clothing, but he does wear a rather heavy pair of thick-soled boots, and white gloves. These boots are green and black, and Espio typically prefers yellow socks which he secures into place with buckles.

Personality: Espio is, as a general rule, an exceptionally abrasive character. He is rude, loud, competitive, critical, cynical, childish, argumentative, short tempered, and more than happy to resort to violence if he doesn't get his way. He takes great pleasure in picking on the imperfections and failures of others, especially those he knows will react if he pokes the issue enough. He's quite terrible for holding a grudge, too.

With that said, however, although he usually parades his negative world view around for all to see, Espio occasionally surprises people with his perceptiveness and understanding of others. He is able to see very clearly both the good and the bad in people, and does not focus on only one or the other unless actively involved in a battle. As such, he's a surprisingly good mediator if given the opportunity.

Although known for being very loud and vocal, Espio is extremely reluctant to divulge personal information, and when circumstances force him into it he is extremely brief and snappy. He is a person who lives for the now, and has no interest in the personal histories of other people. He also has little interest in his own personal history, spending minimal time reflecting on it, and avoiding it in conversation. He is also reluctant with common courtesies such as pleases and thank yous, giving the impression that he is inconsiderate when in fact he just finds such courtesies awkward. He is not, however, at all bothered by his remarkable ability to give people the wrong impression.

Despite the fact he puts emphasis on his physical skills and talents, describing himself as a combat artist, Espio is at heart a bit of a geek. He experiments with a variety of hobbies (his interest is prone to taking detours), but he has a particular interest in computers. He also has a tendency to collect and hoard things that can only be described as useless crap, and is very possessive of his stuff.

Abilities/Strengths: While he's an intelligent, talented fighter, fast and flexible and having been trained to fight bare-handed with an assortment of different techniques, Espio's main abilities are not related to actual combat at all. They are, rather, the ability to render himself invisible and his ability to stick to both walls and ceilings, which you'd think would make him an excellent thief or spy...

Weaknesses: Unfortunately, Espio's personality clashes with his abilities. He is someone who likes to be on the front lines, who likes to take the spotlight and be seen and noticed. He likes to use his little invisibility trick, but his attention-demanding habits usually mean he gives away his position (often by taunting the enemy) before he can actually do anything useful. He's also very easily distracted, and prone to placing a misdirected focus on personal vendettas and rivalry... leading him to fight more with his own team than with the enemy, even right in the middle of a conflict.

Notable Possessions: He has a lot of pointless crap, but nothing that's particularly notable or important for either practical or sentimental reasons.

History: (Note: STC very rarely goes into the pasts of any character, let alone minor characters like Espio! As such, I have given what I know of the actual team's history, and a brief, invented background for him in the first paragraph).

Though he rarely if ever speaks of his personal history, Espio was abandoned as a child and as such has no family. He is uninterested in finding out about his family, and is in fact very dismissive of them - if they didn't care about him, he doesn't care about them, even though he is more than capable of finding out. He grew up in a children's home, never adopted or even fostered, and was ultimately one of the more problematic children for quite some time as even then he was prone to starting fights. After a while, though, it became clear that the solution to his problems was to direct his focus elsewhere. This is the source of his more refined combat skills as well as an assortment of other little talents on the side.

He comes from a pocket dimension connected to the planet Mobius. This little universe is known as the Special Zone, historically known as the Nightmare Country. It's a strange, surreal location, special in entirely the wrong kind of way. Here, fantasies and mythology seem to find their way into reality, and as he has lived there for at least as long as he can actually remember, Espio is perfectly used to strange happenings as a result.

His actual home is in a port city called New Tek, which is on the planet Meridian within the Special Zone - you could describe it as a place where gravity thankfully does not change its mind every five seconds.

He is part of a team known as Chaotix, who are the "Guardians of the Special Zone." Quite how he became involved with Chaotix isn't very clear, though the severity of the personality clashes within the group would indicate that they were put together rather than coming together on their own. As they are associated closely with a sentient time and dimensional travel device, known as the Omni-Viewer, it can be assumed that it was this device which assembled them. There were originally five, but one turned traitor - Espio had previously been on good terms with the traitor, Nack the Weasel, and nobody's entirely sure what his thoughts on this betrayal are as he likes to keep to himself. However, he probably took it harder than he lets on, reflected by his automatic distrust of anyone new.

Chaotix's role within the Special Zone varies, but more often than not they are capable of dismissing the minor insanity the Universe is prone to spitting out in favour of the more severe problems. This occasionally involves Mobius, but as a general rule Chaotix very rarely deal with Mobius. In fact, they have been known to dismiss the problems over there as being boring, even though a Mobius problem once very nearly resulted in bringing a Special Zone End of the World legend to reality.

Espio is accustomed to time and dimensional travel as a result of his time with Chaotix, though he associates the transitions with being thrown from five foot up in the air, head first, and the pain that inevitably results.
